Bio-Hydroderm Trinity features the latest wave of
hydradermabrasion utilising an interchangeable diamond tip
handpiece in place of traditional aluminium crystals, which can
be harsh. Patients benefit from an extra glow thanks to the deeply
nourishing and hydrating Aquafuse skin-correcting infusions.
These are delivered in tandem with the exfoliation process.
Suitable for sensitive skin types right through to acne-troubled and
photo - damaged complexions.
Clairderm Oxygen uses the latest in concentrated, high-pressure
oxygen technology to rejuvenate the skin on the face and body and
restore youthful radiance. It aids in the replenishment of oxygen to
the cells, encouraging enhanced elasticity, visibly plumping out fine
lines and wrinkles and improving skin texture. Clairderm Oxygen
also has a clarifying and antibacterial effect.
HydraFacial is a resurfacing procedure that cleanses, exfoliates
and extracts impurities while at the same time providing a Vortex-
Infusion of anti- oxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid. The
solutions used are formulated to target specific concerns such
as hyper-pigmentation, but also uneven skin tone and texture,
clogged or enlarged pores and sun damage. The non-invasive
treatment, which is comfortable (even relaxing), stimulates
collagen growth and improves cell structure strength. Originally
pitched at the beauty salon market, distributors High Tech Laser
found that doctors became more enthusiastic uptakers. “Doctors
have realised its enormous benefits when packaged with other,
more advanced skin rejuvenating and corrective treatment such
as laser and RF,” says Dan O’Donnell, marketing manager of High
Tech Laser. “ Each treatment uses a series of tips with multiple
peeling edges to exfoliate the skin several times each pass to easily
dislodge and remove impurities while simultaneously introducing
hydrating skin solutions. It makes the results of, say, laser
treatments that much more impactful.”
JetPeel-3V combines medical-grade microdermabrasion with a
supersonic jet stream of water, saline or other solutions to boost
the already positive effects of microdermabrasion, getting into the
pores and cleaning away dead skin cells while hydrating the skin.
Specially designed handpieces break down the water et al into
micro-droplets with the use of pressurised air or medical gas to
gently exfoliate the epidermis.
At the same time, the skin stretches on contact, broadening
micro-canals in the epidermis to allow for hydration, cleansing and
transcutaneous infusion of vitamins and other serums.
JetPeel-3V can be used to complement laser, RF and fat
cavitation treatments and to deliver neurotoxin to hands without
resulting in numbness and/or paralysis to treat hyperhidrosis.

EDUCATION IS KEY
To effectively treat pigmentation, therapists working under
your auspices need a solid understanding of different skin
types, the anatomical structure of the skin, possible causes of
pigmentation and how types of pigmentation differ from one
other. Education and training is key (see Page 28).
Is the pigmentation caused by sun damage or is it
hormonal or genetic? Is it post-inflammatory after an
injury, surgery or acne? Is there an underlying medical
condition or is the client taking medication that has made
their skin photosensitive?
All these factors are crucial when deciding on an
appropriate treatment protocol and managing a patient’s
expectations of the outcome.
Use the wrong, or a too-aggressive treatment, and a patient
could end up with a bigger problem than they set out with, one
that’s perhaps irrevocable.
In the case of stubborn conditions such as hormonally-based
melasma, patients should be advised that results could take a long
while to achieve, and may not be as comprehensive as hoped. Also,
that it has a habit of recurring, thus the goal is management, not cure.
It is strongly recommended patients sign a consent form
stating they have had skin cancer checks within the previous six
to 12 months, as dark spots may actually be pre- cancerous or
Laser and light- based treatments can turn a pre-cancerous
lesion malignant or accelerate a malignancy such as melanoma.
The latter is one of the key reasons Australia’s regulation of
laser and IPL use is under review.
An alarming number of fatal cases of melanoma have been
attributed to the cancer not being diagnosed soon enough, as
the telltale marks had been removed by a light-based treatment,
prolonging diagnosis until it was too late.
