Even the sav v iest, most knowledgeable medical aesthetics
consumer can’t be expected to know all the options available to
them, why exactly you are recommending them and how they will
“ We educate our patients about the problem and the
solution,” says Dr Hkiek, “and this starts with the need to prepare
the skin for treatments such as laser and micro-needling so as to
get optimum outcomes.
“As an example, for a client with Fitzpatrick III skin type with
mild acne scarring needing Fraxel laser, we would begin thet on
skin lightening treatment such as Simply Brilliant serum from
Cosmedix for 3 -4 weeks before the procedure.
“ We would then prescribe soothing and healing products
for the immediate post phase of the treatment (peptides
antioxidants, hyaluronic acid serums) and according, to their
skin health, then prescribe a maintenance regime that is
reviewed on the regular basis.
“ We will discuss the wide range of modalities on offer at All
Saints and what we may use in alone or in combination to maximise
a patient’s beauty. For instance we have: Fraxel and Clear+ Brilliant
lasers, and Omnilux and Healite II LEDs for skin rejuvenation;
Ultherapy and Pelleve for skin tightening; multiple peels,
HydraFacial, micro-needling and skin blading; and we use all TGA-
approved dermal fillers and biostimulators, and b toxins.”

Dr Hkeik also explains to patients the need to address their
inner health before, during and after treatments to boost their
effectiveness and a patient’s overall wellbeing.
“ We do recommend in-house [to Chizza Westcarr, who holds a
Bachelor of Health Sciences (Clinical Dermal Therapies), Master’s
Degree in Human Nutrition and has almost completed her studies
in Nutritional Medicine] as well as provide external referral for all
nutritional and wellness advice and support.”
Katherine Millar- Shannon, cosmetic nurse practitioner and
owner of Duquessa medispas in Melbourne and Sydney, embraced
holistic therapies in her Melbourne clinic several years ago to
enhance her aesthetic offerings to patients.
“Many skin concerns like acne, melasma, pigmentation stem
from internal dysfunctions but convey on the skin surface,” she says.
“ We noted a gap in the market and wanted to set the benchmark
with good skin health.
“At Duquessa we offer colonic hydrotherapy (Melbourne only),
IV vitamin infusions and multi-vitamin injections. There is even an
IV treatment for pigmentation.
“At both clinics we offer the exclusive Vita-Lite treatment; a
combination of receiving IV vitamins while hav ing Omnilux LED.
“If a patient is deficient in vitamins and have skin concerns this
is a great way to kick start a new skincare or health regime.
“It is also helpful for people who travel and suffer from jetlag
and can help people who burn the candle at both ends.”
Skin analysis technology is prov iding a highly valuable, measurable
tool for patients to see proof of the results they're getting and, thus,
are more likely commit to you for the long term.
Treating lumps, bump and rashes, lines, wrinkles and
discolourations on the skin surface is the lifeblood of the industry.
Yet addressing what lies beneath is ultimately the most
significant concern, to prevent further surface issues erupting.
For instance, Robyn McAlpine, owner of Laser Effect Clinic in
Newcastle, NSW, invested in an observ analysis device two years
ago. Observ skin diagnostic tools are based on LED illumination
technology, revealing hidden skin conditions with clarity.
Consequently, impairments once barely discernable to the naked
eye now clearly stand out from healthy tissue.
"I could see observ was going to be an asset to mine and many
skin-focused businesses," says Robyn. "It not only allows us to make
an accurate diagnosis but also allows out clients to see what we see,
so they become more engaged in the skin revision process.
"It gives us such a great foundation onwhich to base treatment
programs because there's no guesswork, only evidence.
"This allows us to put a treatment plan in place to create the best
skin possible and reduce the need for more drastic inter ventions for
skin issues at an advanced stage.
